5 Ways to Enjoy Life More Starting Today

Live. Life is a gift. It is to be embraced and experienced with joy… even in tough times. Notice I said joy, not necessarily happiness. We can be joyful in life even when facing sad or troubling experiences. I know this is much easier said than done, so to put things into perspective, consider reading the classic book by Victor Frankl entitled Man's Search for Meaning. It's a game-changer!

Laugh. Laughter is an instant mood-lifter and joy-enhancer. As legendary basketball coach Jim Valvano said: “If you laugh, you think, and you cry, that's a full day. That's a heck of a day. You do that seven days a week, you're going to have something special.”

Love. Love isn't a feeling. It isn't a noun either. It's a verb. If you take action each day to love God first and then love your family, your neighbors, your coworkers, and your clients, you will enjoy life more. Guaranteed!

Learn. Learning = growth. It sparks new ideas. It creates energy. And best of all, it's fun. The day you stop learning is the day you stop enjoying life.

Lead. You don't have to have the title of “leader” to lead. Lead yourself by striving to glorify God in who you are and what you do. Lead your family by helping each person become the best version of himself or herself. Lead coworkers or clients into new insights and skills that grow their confidence. The key to making your leadership joyful is to make sure it's not about domination or dictatorship, but about positively directing others. When you direct others towards a more fulfilling and meaningful life, a natural by-product is that you will enjoy life more as well.
