Key To Success — Stick-to-it-tive-ness
I received an email a few days ago from a career coaching client who made it to the final cut for a job she really wanted only to find out that the company decided to pick the other person instead. Although her attitude was great (she wrote: “I gave everything I could and have no regrets”), I could tell she was really disappointed, and rightfully so.
I sent her an email in response, and while I won’t share all I wrote to her with you, here is one key to success that I hope will both challenge and encourage you along your journey as well:
In another email I wrote:
I’m telling you, stick-to-it-tive-ness has been a key to success for me in business. As a speaker, one of the primary reason I get booked is because I have continued to serve and add value to meeting planners over the years…outlasting a bunch of other speakers who started out around the same time I did. Remember, the last man (or woman) standing wins!
Speaking of “staying the course” as being a key to success in finding the life and work you love, here’s another email I received last week. I believe the young lady mentioned above will write me a similar email someday soon. Why? Because staying the course IS a key to success, and she’s definitely practicing it!
You coached me back in 2009, and I just wanted to shoot you an email to let you know that it has been a long journey, but I have finally made it.
After finishing my coaching sessions with you, I went to work on reaching my goals. The method for reaching my goals along with the career I had decided on with you changed and progressed along the way, but the skills and techniques that I learned from you stayed the same the entire way through. I find myself today in a new job that I would have never thought of as an option for me, but now realize that it is a perfect fit for me and look forward to my new found career. It is amazing when you set clear goals and work towards them that things just have a way of working themselves out.
Many things have changed in my life since we finished working together, some have been hard and others have been incredibly rewarding. The tools that you gave me have helped me through the changes and challenges in my life and have given me the power to take life by the horns and adapt to the changes without loosing myself or what is truly important to me. I thank you for everything you have done for me and will always hold on to the valuable tools you have given me.
